4731 didn't invent the genre of the studio arts building, but we certainly did help it flourish. One of our greatest accomplishments has been to do our part to bring the arts community together. The city still needs to learn how to support artists, and we still need our market to expand, but we are here, creating artistic expressions of our talent, our experiences, and our lives. We offer 31 individual studios, and are home to some of the most talented artists, fashion designers and creatives in the city. My son Rickie Geyer was recently diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. It is a life-threatening disease that attacks the lungs and pancreas in a child's body. Until recently it was called a childhood disease because no one ever lived into adulthood. Now, with medicine, the average life expectancy has risen to almost 37 years. But medicine alone isn't enough. It is expected that at some point Rickie's lungs will fill with mucus and he will need a lung transplant. To help raise funds to help him cover his medical expenses, we are holding a fundraiser. I am swimming across Lake St. Clair in late August.
